Biographical/Historical Note: Mary D. Hickman Price was born in Columbia, Missouri on October 14, 1866 to parents David Henry and Annie Cornelia (Bryan) Hickman. She married John Ewing Price in Missouri on June 3, 1885, and had two sons, Hickman and Andrew. The Price family moved to Seattle in 1902, where Mary lived until her death in 1937.

Mary Price had a strong interest in genealogy and devoted much of her life to this passion. She discovered that eighteen of her Hickman ancestors had credentials sufficient to earn her an invitation to become a Colonial Dame, which she accepted in 1900. She also worked on her husband's Price genealogy. In 1910, Price co-founded the Washington State Society of the Colonial Dames of America and served as its president for 27 years.
