Wanda Lee Adams (Haynes) story made headlines in 1972, when she was featured in both the Seattle P-I and Life Magazine. Known as the "Dropout Wife," Adams caught national attention when she left her husband and three children to be on her own in what Life Magazine called a "phenomenon" that was occurring with greater frequency in the United States.
