Summary:The Missoula New Party was a progressive political organization formed in the spring of 1993 by a group of Missoula, Montana citizens who were motivated to move the political system in a more progressive direction by creating a third party option to the existing two party system. Materials in this collection document the organization’s main functions and activities, including electoral campaigns at the local and state level, as well as a number of issue-based campaigns directing at changing policy. The records in the collection document the relationship between the local chapter and the national New Party organization, local grassroots efforts to engage and grow a third political party movement, and significant issues in progressive politics during the 1990s.
