Summary:The E. Richard Hart audio-visual collection (1970-2003) consists of audio and video recordings relating to the history Native Americans and the American West. Hart is an author and researcher associated with the American West Center (Salt Lake City, Utah), the Institute of the American West (Sun Valley, Idaho) and the Institute of the North American West (Seattle, Washington). He has served as an expect witness in several federal court cases involving land claims by the Zuni, some of which are represented in this collection.

Summary:The E. Richard Hart papers (1664-2041) contain correspondence, research files, manuscripts, news clippings, maps, posters, publications, court exhibits, and financial documents. Hart is an author, researcher, and past director of the Institute of the American West at Sun Valley, Idaho (1979-1984). He is the co-founder of the Institute of the North American West (1984). He has also served as an expect witness in several federal court cases involving land claims by the Zuni Indians.

Summary:The Institute of the North American West (INAW) records (1870-1993) consist of manuscripts, research materials and notes, maps, interviews, court exhibits, correspondence, and publications. This non-profit educational institution was established in 1984 by E. Richard Hart, Matthew J. Cullen, and Barry Sadler for the purpose of providing historical background, documentation, and opportunities for discussion of current thinking in regards to environmental and cultural concerns, economic development, and problems connected with these issues in the North American West, Canada to Mexico.

Summary:The Zuni land claims cases records (1941-1991) consist of legal files concerning two suits brought by the New Mexico Zuni tribe against the U.S. government over land rights in New Mexico and Arizona, and a third suit over access to an important sacred site in eastern Arizona. Included are briefs, reports, trial transcripts, exhibits, appraisals, maps, and orders and opinions of the court.
