David J. Buerger papers

Summary:The David J. Buerger papers (1820-1986) contain correspondence, personal diary entries, research notes, copies of papers (both published and unpublished), newspaper clippings, class notes and projects, copies of diary and letter transcripts where the originals are stored in other archival repositories, pamphlets, and excerpts from published works. The largest body of documents on any one subject pertains to temple ceremonies and ordinances. Buerger compiled a file of one hundred and one published articles written between 1842 and 1985 which describe temple ceremonies. His other interests included the Adam-God doctrine, polygamy, fundamentalism, anti-Mormon writings, and all issues which have involved conflict between church officials and Mormon scholars. Among the latter are evolution, blacks and the priesthood, prophetic infallibility, and education at Brigham Young University.

Summary:The Guy Potter Mormon history collection (1841-1976) contains photocopied correspondence, statements, statistics, lists, and journal excerpts regarding the Holy Order and the performance of Second Anointings in the LDS Church. Included are correspondence from Brigham Young, John Taylor, Heber J. Grant, and Wilford Woodruff, as well as statements by Joseph Smith, Joseph F. Smith, and Brigham Young. Also included are photocopies of diaries and typed copies of diaries taken from published sources.The collection also includes various lists and statistics concerning the Holy Order and participants in Mormon Church activities at the Manti Temple and in Nauvoo.

Summary:The Heber J. Sears papers contain an index card to temple records, a letter to Florence Sears, a booklet composed by Sears of favorite poems, and two news clippings. Also included is correspondence from B. H. Roberts, James E. Talmage, and Heber J. Grant. Sears was a former professor at the University of Utah, physician and surgeon.
