The first serviced ski area in Utah was created at Brighton in 1936. The resort area has been expanded to cover 850 acres today.

Originally called the Olympic Ski Club, Ski Utah Associates was formed by a group of civic-minded business leaders who sought to convince out-of-state skiers of the bounteous skiing opportunities in the Wasatch Mountains, as well as to explore the possibility of hosting the Olympic Winter Games in Utah.

The Timp Haven Ski Area is located in Provo Canyon, Utah. It was founded in 1943 and was known as Timp Haven until 1971 when it was purchased by Robert Redford who renamed it Sundance Ski Resort.

Summary:The Utah Ski Archives Advisory Board records (1973-2012) contain correspondence, meeting agendas, auction forms, articles, art designs, brochures, memos, newsletters, and newspaper materials regarding the Ski Archives' annual fundraiser, "The Ski Affair." The Utah Ski Archives, established in 1989, was created in order to preserve a comprehensive history of skiing in Utah and the Intermountain region. The archives offer a unique opportunity for historical and contemporary research into Utah's prospering ski industry. Addendums to the Utah Ski Archives Advisory Board Records also contain materials regarding the building of the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center and the Alf Engen Ski Museum.
