Summary:The William Clayton diaries and ledger consist of copies of Clayton's 1840-1842 journal, ledger and his 1852-1853 diary. Clayton was prominent in the Mormom movement. He was summoned to Joseph Smith's office to assist Willard Richards and subsequently became clerk to Joseph Smith. Later, he followed Brigham Young to the Great Salt Lake Valley and served missions for the his church.

Summary:The Mary Susannah Sumner Fackrell Fowler and William Fowler diaries [photocopies and typescripts] (1854-1900) consist of a total of three diaries. William Fowler's diary was written in 1854 and 1855 and records his mission to Glouchestershire, England, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary Susannah Fackrell Fowler's diaries, written in 1899-1900, record her daily life in central Utah. She provides information on home remedies for various illnesses, tells of local attitudes about various subjects, and describes her daily chores and activities.

Summary:The G. T. (George Trevier) Harrison papers (1802-1994) are a collection of studies of Mormonism, Christianity, and some politics written and collected by G. T. Harrison, who in the inventory will be referred to as GTH. Once a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), Harrison later became an atheist and continued his study of the history and theology of the LDS Church, as well as other Christian religions. He wrote several books, including Mormons Are Peculiar People, Mormonism Now and Then, And It Came to Pass, and That Mormon Book, all of which are included in this collection among many other books in which he made numerous notes. Much of the material in this collection focuses on controversial aspects of religion and politics, and includes several books, correspondence, notes, and articles.

Summary:The Lorenzo Hill Hatch journal typescripts (1855-1906) were prepared by Ruth Savage Hilton in 1958 of Hatch's journals. Lorenzo Hill Hatch (1826-1910) was a Mormon missionary, pioneer, and settler. He served as mayor of Lehi, as legislator of Utah and Idaho, and also founded a number of settlements in Arizona.

Summary:The Thomas A. Leishman papers (1887-1998) contain his mission diary and various personal and biographical documents. Leishman was born in Scotland and emigrated to Utah in 1852. He helped lay out the city of Wellsville, Utah, and assisted in the construction of every public building in the community. He later served an LDS mission to England and Scotland form 1887 to 1889.

Summary:The Joseph W. McMurrin papers (1896-1925) consist of his diaries, three notebooks of quotations and ideas for talks, typed notes on notecards, the 1930 "Messenger: San Francisco Stake of Zion," and miscellaneous newspaper clippings. Joseph W. McMurrin (1858-1932) was the son of Joseph McMurrin and Margaret Leaning. He was ordained a Seventy in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in 1884 and sustained as one of the First Seven Presidents (becoming a General Authority of the LDS Church) in October 1897 and served until his death in October 1932.

Summary:The Mathew Rowan papers [photocopies] (1853-1864) consist of the Rowan family history and a journal, both written by Mathew Rowan while serving a mission in England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rowan began writing the family history, and his journal, shortly after his 1853 marriage to Jane Martin in Worcester, England. Together the two documents document his activities as a private citizen and as an official for the LDS church in England and Utah.

The diary covers events in Taylor's life such as converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints (LDS), in England, his trip aboard a steamer to New Orleans, his travels from Council Bluffs across the plains to Salt Lake City, and the "Utah War" and the impact of the army at Fort Bridger and Camp Floyd.
