Summary:The office of Adminstrative Vice President was created in 1967 and its functions were merged into the current offfice of Vice President for Administrative Services in 1973. The office developed long-range physical plans; directed maintenance, operations, and construction of buildings and grounds; and represented the University with external public and private agencies in matters concerning planning, zoning, traffic, law enforcement, and related areas. During the period covered by these records, Brigham D. Madsen served as Administrative Vice President. This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, and reports related to general campus administration. Principal subjects covered are planning, construction, security, personnel, physical plant operations, and space allocation. Also included are correspondence and reports of the Western History Association of which Brigham D. Madsen was a member.

Summary:The office of Administrative Vice President was created in 1967 and became part of the current office of Vice President for Administrative Services in 1973. The office developed long-range physical plans; directed maintenance, operation, and construction of buildings and grounds; and represented the University with external public and private agencies in matters concerning planning, zoning, traffic, law enforcement, and related areas. During the period covered by these records, Brigham D. Madsen (1967-1972) and C. Ray Varley (1972-1973) served as Administrative Vice President. This collection contains correspondence, reports, and meeting minutes principally related to campus planning and construction.

Summary:The office of Business Vice President was created in 1953 to alleviate problems associated with post-war expansion by centralizing control of administrative services. During the period covered by these records, Elmo R. Morgan (1953-1959) and Paul W. Hodson (1959-1967) served as Business Vice President. In 1967 the name of the office was changed to Business, Finance, and Construction Vice President and it was placed under the new office of the Executive Vice President. The functions of the office were redistributed over the next several years, mainly to the new offices of Administrative Vice President or Financial Vice President. This collection contains budgets, reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, and memoranda. The principal subjects covered are finances and campus planning.

Summary:Between 1967 and 1973, the Executive Vice President reported directly to the President of the University of Utah and supervised the administrative Vice President and the Financial Vice President. In 1973 the position of Executive Vice President was abolished in a general administrative reorganization. During the period covered by these records, Neal A. Maxwell and later John A. Dixon served as Executive Vice President. This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, and reports to and from the office of the Executive Vice President. Included are materials relating to the Alumni Association, Computer Center, development, planning, the University of Utah Medical Center, personnel, public relations, and the Special Events Center (later called the Jon M. Huntsman Center). Also included is correspondence with other administrative officers.

Summary:In 1972 Campus Planning, Physical Plant Engineering, and Traffic Engineering were consolidated into Architecture and Engineering, administered under Physical Plant Operations and Construction. In 1973 a new office called Plant Operations was created which combined these and other functions. In 1975 another reorganization resulted in the creation of Facilities Planning and Construction separate from Plant Operations with Bruce Jensen as director. This collection contains correspondence, accounts, clippings, architectural drawings, contracts, reports, and articles, related to the design, construction, and renovation of campus buildings as well as general campus planning activities.

Hodson while he served as Business Vice President (1959-1967), and Vice President for Special Projects and Director of International Education (1967-1973). Principal subjects covered are budgets, legislative relations, campus planning, and international education.
