Summary:The Edward Abbey audio collection (1981-1989) consists of audio recordings or public and published works of Edward Abbey, as well as his memorial service in 1989. Recordings of include Abbey's speech at the 'cracking' of Glen Canyon Dam in 1981 and the audiobook Freedom and Wilderness: Edward Abbey Reads from his Work. Edward Abbey was a noted author and environmental activist, much of whose work focused on the desert Southwest.

Summary: This collection consists of records (1876-1974) of the Anaconda Copper Mining Company and contains correspondence, court papers, financial and production records, legal documents, organizational records, subject files, and other materials for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company and many of its predecessor and subsidiary companies and departments. Among the major subgroups are General Office; Big Blackfoot Milling Company; Bitter Root Development Company; Boston and Montana Consolidated Copper and Silver Mining Company; Colorado Smelting and Mining Company; Diamond Coal and Coke Company; Parrot Silver and Copper Company; Reduction Department (Anaconda); Silver Bow Club; Trenton Mining and Development Company; Tuttle Manufacturing and Supply Company; and Washoe Copper Company. In addition, there are more than 100 smaller subgroups.

Church restaurant review video collection (1979-1983) consists of recordings of Church's "silver spoon" restaurant reviews conducted for PM Magazine Utah, broadcast on KUTV Channel 2. The series provides 1-2 minute snapshots of restaurants in Salt Lake City and throughout the state of Utah. The collection also contains footage of other non-restaurant PM Magazine features to which Church contributed. Al Church has authored restaurant reviews for KUTV and the Deseret News.

Malcom 'Moki Mac' Ellingson river running video collection

Summary:The Malcom 'Moki Mac' Ellingson river running video collection (circa 1914, 1956-1963) consists of home movies of river trips in southern Utah and the vicinity, most frequently in the Glen Canyon area of the Colorado River. Several films contain footage of Native American towns and customs. The earliest film in the collection is a 16mm copy of a 35mm nitrate, intertitled film of boat trips on the Colorado River circa 1914. The collection also includes some films of Ellingson's family and other life scenes. 'Moki Mac' Ellingson was a Boy Scout leader and guide on many river expeditions.

Summary:The Philo T. and Elma G. Farnsworth audio collection (1960-1978) contains audio recordings of Farnsworth speaking to audiences as well as recordings his wife, Elma G. "Pem" Farnsworth, made while researching a biography following his death in 1971. Philo Taylor Farnsworth (1906-1971) was a researcher, writer, and a pioneering developer of television, radar technology, peacetime applications of nuclear fusion, and the infant incubator.

Summary:The Flaming Gorge Bureau of Reclamation video (1963) consists of a VHS dub of a film created by the United States Bureau of Reclamation celebrating the completion of Flaming Gorge Dam, located about 10 miles west of the current town of Dutch John, Utah. The film follows the history of the dam from its constcution - beginning in 1958 - to the ceremonioal start of its first generator by President John F. Kennedy in September 1963.

Summary:The French kayakers river running video collection (1938, 2011) consists of edited footage of a kayak trip down the Green and Colorado Rivers undertaken by French kayakers Antoine DeSeynes, Bernard DeColmont and Genevieve DeColmont in the autumn of 1938. A filmmaker, Bernard DeColmont made a color film on 16mm stock. Antoine DeSeynes made a black and white film on 8mm stock. The collection also contains audio recordings of an interview about the with Patrice DeColmont conducted in 2011.

Summary:The Don Gale KSL editorial video collection (1938-2010, bulk 1978-1997) consists of the complete 19-year series of daily editorials delivered by Gale at the end of the evening news on Salt Lake City television station KSL. The collection touches on myriad local and national issues affecting Utahns and highlights the state's social, political, environmental and cultural history during the latter half of the 20th century. The collection also contains various tributes to local businessman and philanthropist "Izzi" Wagner. Gale began writing editorials in 1977, went on the air in 1978, and continued broadcasting until his retirement in 1998.

Summary:The film Margie of the Wasatch (1940s) is an early promotional film for the Utah ski industry. Filmed at Alta Ski Area in Little Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City, the movie uses a narrative about two ski instructors competing for the affection of beautiful ski tourist Margie to showcase the Wasatch Mountains and the lessons, facilities, and services available at the resort. Alta began operations in 1939.

Morton's films includes narrative films about river running on the Green and Colorado Rivers as well as tourism films featuring Utah's scenic desert Southwest and national parks commissioned by the Utah Tourist and Publicity Council and other public organizations. The collection also includes an interview with Morton's daughter, Darlene Phillips, about her father's filmmaking career. This collection is part of the Utah Independent Film Archive (UIFA).
