Summary:Records of a mercantile firm of Portland, Oregon, founded by Cicero Hunt Lewis and Lucius H. Allen. The records date mainly from the late 19th and early 20th century and include financial ledgers, business correspondence, real estate and land records, contracts, stock certificates, and materials relating to the widening of West Burnside Street in downtown Portland, due to construction of the Burnside Bridge. Also includes papers relating to George Good.

Summary:Ranging in date from 1848 to 1986, the Congregational Church Collection is an artificial collection of records from Congregational churches and related associations in Oregon. The bulk of the collection consists of printed material from various churches, notably the First Congregational Church of Portland and Oregon City's Atkinson Memorial Church. The collection also includes microfilmed records from the First Congregational Church of The Dalles. A limited amount of correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, and assorted church records forms the remainder of the collection.

Oscar F. Cooke family papers

Summary:Papers and photographs of the family of Oscar F. Cooke of Portland, Oregon, including records of the West Hills Winery, records of the estates of Oscar and Ella Cooke, papers of Mary Lepper, Helen Lovin, and other relatives, and family photographs. Most of the materials, which date largely from the late 1880s to the early 1960s, are financial in nature and involve real estate holdings and estate litigation. Winery records include details on wine making operations and floor plans of the winery building.

Couch Family Papers

Summary:Papers of the family of John Heard Couch, one of the original developers of the townsite of Portland, Oregon, and his descendents, including members of the Glisan and Robertson families. Papers include correspondence, legal papers, land ownership records, clippings, family Bibles, journals of John Heard Couch, and papers concerning Couch's wife Caroline and their descendants Caroline Wilson, Clementine Lewis, and Elizabeth and Rodney Glisan. Of special note is John Heard Couch's logbook, 1853-1858, for voyages on the ships Chenamus and Madonna; and the travel diary of Nan Robertson, 1911-1912, written during a trip to San Francisco and Southern Asia.

Includes papers relating to Bishops Thomas Fielding Scott, Benjamin Wistar Morris, Charles Scadding, and Walter Taylor Sumner; other clergy members; local churches; materials relating to Good Samaritan Hospital, Bishop Scott Academy, and St. Helens Hall, all of Portland; and records of the Women's Auxiliary. Much of the collection was assembled by Rev. Edward H. Clark. Also includes microfilm of church records for various Oregon parishes, including the Missionary Diocese of Eastern Oregon.

James F. Failing family papers

Summary:James Frederick Failing (1842-1920) was a prominent Portland businessman, civic leader, and member of the early Failing family. After arriving in Portland from New York in 1853, James participated in the wholesale hardware business of J. Failing and Co. with his father, Josiah, and his brother Henry. He would later go on to become the director or Portland's First National Bank, and serve as a trustee for numerous local organizations. His children also became notable Portland figures through business and philanthropy.

Summary:Records of an organization of Portland, Oregon, founded in 1907, that produces the city's annual Rose Festival. Early records (designated Mss 1528) include minutes of meetings, 1907-1908, programs, publicity materials, and ephemera. Later records (designated Mss 1528-1) mostly date from 1942 to 1992 and contain extensive administrative records for each year's festival, financial records, publicity materials, and ephemera. There is some overlap in documentation between the two collections.
