Lindsay Applegate papers

Summary:Lindsay Applegate (1808-1892) pioneered Oregon's Applegate Trail with his brothers Charles and Jesse in 1843. Subsequently Applegate became a U.S. government agent for the Modoc and Klamath Indians. The Lindsay Applegate papers contain newspaper clippings related to the Applegate family; letters (1863-1891); and reports, vouchers and other administrative documents relating to Applegate's work as Subagent at Ft. Klamath (1866-1872).

Oliver Cromwell Applegate papers

Summary:Oliver Cromwell Applegate (1845-1938), the son of Lindsay and Elizabeth Applegate (Applegate Trail pioneers), spent his career working with Oregon Indians. He was a subagent with the Indian Service at Yainax, and during the Modoc War he served as an interpreter and a scout. In 1873, he became a U.S. Commissioner, and in 1898 was appointed Klamath Indian Agent. After his resignation in 1905 he continued to work with the federal government on Indian issues such as the Grande Ronde tribal status challenge. The Oliver Cromwell Applegate papers consist mainly of Applegate family correspondence, with some miscellaneous bills, newspaper clippings, pension papers, documents, journals and the 1868 diary of Frank Applegate.

Summary:George Belknap (1905-1996) was a student at the University of Oregon (UO), and would later become a faculty member, the UO Editor, and also a published author who was especially noted for his Oregon, and UO histories. The collection (1930-1991) contains research files on philosophy, Oregon history, and the history of UO, an unpublished manuscript titled, The Limerick: A Critical Study, administrative faculty files, as well as personal files, including personal correspondence and photographs.

Summary:Edwin R. Bingham began his career as a professor of History at the University of Oregon (UO) in 1949 and retired to professor emeritus status in 1982. His major research areas included Pacific Northwest History and American cultural history. The collection (1905-1994) contains Bingham's faculty papers and correspondence files from his tenure at the UO, and also research files and publications largely regarding the history of the Pacific Northwest.

The Kelly-Seavey Family Papers comprise the political and business papers of John Kelly, papers of other Kelly family members, and a small segment of Seavey family papers, as well as several boxes of photographs.

Summary:The KOAC radio station is owned by the state of Oregon, located in Corvallis, managed by the State Board of Higher Education, with studios in Corvallis, Eugene, Monmouth, Portland, and Salem. The collection contains programs and transcripts of radio addresses concerning ancient history in Oregon and the Museum of Natural History (1938-1939), and also radio scripts from 1936 and 1946.
