Summary:Harold Cedric Bean (1889-1930) served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWI, and after his discharge, returned to Oregon and practiced medicine, and served on medical boards. The collection (1873-1930) contains correspondence, military papers, manuscripts regarding medical issues among soldiers in WWI, and other papers.

Fort Assinniboine records

Summary:Established by the United States Army in 1879, Fort Assinniboine served to secure the Canadian border, and enforce a policy of intimidation and containment of the Native American nations. Over its 32 years as a military post, many hundreds of soldiers garrisoned there, including African American companies from the 24th and 25th Infantries and the 10th Cavalry. Records (1879-1906) include incoming correspondence regarding the Riel Rebellion, Canadian Indians, and other topics regarding the Fort and military business. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence registers, reports, orders, and miscellany.

Summary:Peter Bernard Kyne (1880 - 1957) a soldier who served in the Spanish American War and WWI, became an author whose war experience provided the background for many of his later stories. The collection (1898-1918) contains correspondence written while Kyne served in the Philippines, during his discharge between wars, and a later letter written in France during WWI.

Summary:Robert Leon Rose served in the U.S. Army as a part of the 46th General Hospital during World War II. The Robert Leon Rose Papers document Robert's relationship with wife Borgny Christofferson Rose, R.N., containing transcribed letters passed between them while Robert was overseas during the war as well as a bound biography of the Rose's, edited by their granddaughter Karyl Groeneveld.

John Guy Strohm Scrapbook: Base Hospital 46

Summary:Dr. John Guy Strohm came to Oregon shortly before World War I, organized the first army unit to leave Portland, and was in the original nucleus of the 91st division. He also organized the 46th General Hospital sponsored by the University of Oregon Medical School. The scrapbook contains primarily collected newspaper clippings as well as a photograph, booklet, correspondence, and other documents.
