Orvin B. Fjare Papers

Summary:The Orvin B. Fjare Papers contains office files from Mr. Fjare's Washington congressional office in 1954-1956. Includes much correspondence with Republican Party leaders at both state and national levels. Also included are case file responses and correspondence between Fjare and his constituents. Issues discussed include farm legislation, national defense installations in Montana, Yellowtail and Hungry Horse dams, Charles M. Russel Memorials, proposed highway projects, and additions to the national forests. Office bills and records are also included. Two photographs of Fjare are included along with political scrapbooks are copied on microfilm.

Haynes Family Photographs

Summary:The Haynes Family Photographs are comprised of photographs taken by F. Jay Haynes (FJH), Jack Ellis Haynes (JEH), and others during the period 1866-1969. The photographs are portraits, candid snapshots, Haynes Inc. (HInc), Haynes Picture Shops (HPS), and Haynes Studios Inc. (HSInc) photographs, and other images covering a very diverse subject matter. The vast majority of the photographs are concerned with friends and family of the of the Haynes (FJH and JEH) and Yellowstone National Park (YNP). Additionally, there are also "Cabinet and Boudoir" photographs taken by FJH as the official photographer of the Northern Pacific Railroad (NPRR) and many photographs, numbered and unnumbered, in Haynes family photo albums. Additional images include artwork prepared for Haynes brochures, artwork by illustrator Fritz Schlanze, photos of paintings by W.H. Jackson, an extensive collection of reproductions of paintings by C.M. Russell sold by HInc and HPS in YNP, and other artwork and photographs related to the area surrounding YNP and the West in general.

Wallis Huidekoper Collection

Summary:The Wallis Huidekoper Collection consists a selection of letters exchanged between Dr. Merrill G. Burlingame and Wallis Huidekoper regarding the editing of an oral history interview conducted in 1954, a 1929 letter from Edward Douglas Branch thanking Huidekoper for his favorable comments on The Hunting of the Buffalo (New York: D. Appleton and Co., 1929) and a 1938 letter from Martin S. Garretson, again thanking Huidekoper for favorable comments on his book, The American Bison (New York: New York Zoological Society, 1938). Also included are edited versions of an oral history interview with Huidekoper conducted by Elizabeth DeFrate and Merrill G. Burlingame on July 26, 1954 and transcribed from an audio tape, a typed bibliography of Huidekoper's articles, along with two original manuscripts he wrote concerning artist Charles M. Russell has been placed in a separate folder. Other materials include printed brochures and pamphlets written by or pertaining to Huidekoper' father, Henry Shippen Huidekoper and newspaper clippings pertaining to historic sites in the Germantown, Pennsylvania area, Wallis Huidekoper, Theodore Roosevelt, and ranching in North Dakota and Montana. Six photographs of North Dakota badlands residents circa 1880s and the Huidekoper ranch near Big Timber, Montana, circa 1956, complete the collection.

Summary:The Oscar O. Mueller collection consists of positive photocopies of various documents held by the Lewistown Public Library in 1967. They include resources that Mueller used to compose his published historical writing and occasionally copies of those publications. Topics include: the history of Central Montana, especially in the Judith Basin and Lewistown areas, Winnett, Yellowstone National Park, the Battle of the Little Bighorn, vigilantes, the Fort Carroll Trail, and the Battle of the Bear’s Paw. Topics include: the inaugural meeting minutes of the Judith Basin County Chapter of the American Pioneer Trails Association, May 29, 1945, the Montana Council organizational activities, research inquiries regarding the National Industrial Conference Board, farm foreclosures in the mid 1920s, illustrations and pricing of horse harness equipment circa 1915, and National Cash Register company recording transactions of an unidentified business in 1914. Other topics include general Montana history, the vigilantes of 1863-64, Charles M. Russell, and the battle of the Little Bighorn. However, as well as financial information.
