This collection contains meeting minutes, policies and procedures statements, budgets, correspondence, and materials concerning the funding and management of the student newspaper, the "Daily Utah Chronicle."

John L. Ballif scrapbook

Summary:John L. Ballif was born in 1887 or 1888 (sources differ) in Logan, Utah. He joined the University of Utah faculty in 1922 and eventually became a professor of languages. He later served as assistant dean of men and graduate athletic manager. He was Dean of men from 1937 until his death in 1954. A University of Utah dormitory, Ballif Hall, was dedicated in his honor in 1956. This collection contains photocopies of newspaper clippings, photographs, and other ephemera, originally in a scrapbook.

Summary:William Mitton Stewart was principal of the University of Utah Normal School from 1888 to 1913. He was active in the establishment of the Training School which was later named the Stewart School. He also served as director of the Summer School for many years, and as a regent of the University of Utah from 1889 to 1892. This collection contains a biography of William Mitton Stewart by an unidentified author and a copy of the newspaper obituary notice.

James Chipman Fletcher presidential records

Summary:James C. Fletcher was born June 5, 1919 in Millburn, New Jersey. He received a B.A. from Columbia University in 1940 and a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1948. Dr. Fletcher was employed by Aerojet General Corporation when named President of the University of Utah in 1964. He left the University in 1971 to take the position of administrator of NASA. James C. Fletcher died December 22, 1991. This collection contains appointment books, correspondence, memoranda, financial and department records, and annual reports. Included are records concerning University of Utah relations with the Utah State Board of Higher Education and the U.S. Office of Education. Also included are James C. Fletcher's college yearbooks (1937-1939) and a copy of his dissertation (1948).

Summary:The Regional Medical Program was authorized by Congress in 1965. The Intermountain Regional Medical Program functioned from 1967 to 1974. Its projects focused on continuing education for health care professionals and the provision of consultants for rural communities. The University of Utah served as the grantee institution and kept the program's records. The largest portion of this collection consists of project files. Other major sections are committee files, correspondence, grant applications, and files of program directors. Principal correspondents are Art Anderson, Richard Haglund, Bert Jones, Dave Noonan, Thomas Pace, Sam Roberts, Robert Satovick, Donald W. Ulmer, and William Wilson.

This collection consists of two scrapbooks containing drawings, postcards, and photoprints related to the activities of the University of Utah Alumnae Chapter of Phi Chi Theta. One scrapbook covers 1928-1937, the other covers 1930-1964.

He served as Head of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Entomology from 1948 to 1963, Chairman of the Division of Biological Sciences from 1951 to 1965, and as Director of the Institute of Environmental Biological Research from 1960 to 1966. Rees retired from the University in 1970. He is known primarily for his work in mosquito abatement. The majority of this collection contains materials related to Rees' mosquito abatement activity. A small portion of the collection contains material relating to his career in the Department of Zoology and Entomology and the Institute of Environmental Biological Research.

Summary:The report on dance companies associated with the University since 1960 was written by Elizabeth Haglund, who was Director of Special Projects in the office of the Vice President for Budget and Planning, at the request of President Chase Peterson. The five dance companies chronicled in this report were Virginia Tanner's Childrens Dance Theatre, Reperetory Dance Theatre, William Christensen's Pre-University Ballet Program, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, and Ballet West. This collection contains the report and supporting material.
