Summary: Anton M. Holter (1831-1921) was a pioneer Helena, Montana, lumberman and founder of the A.M. Holter Hardware Company. Papers (1831-1921) include correspondence, and organizational and financial records relating to mining, agriculture, lumber, real estate, and oil interests of three generations of the family, headed successively by Anton M. Holter, Norman B. Holter, and Norman J. "Jeff" Holter. Many of the enterprises were in partnership with Samuel T. Hauser. Interests include the A.M. Holter Hardware Company; Holter Realty; Holter Research Foundation; Judith Farms; Montana Flour Mills; and the Helena and Frisco, Helena and Victor, the Maginnis mining companies, and many others.

Lee Metcalf Papers

Summary: Lee Metcalf (1911-1978) served as U.S. Congressman from Montana from 1952 to 1961 and as U.S. Senator from 1961 until his death in 1978. The papers reflect Metcalf's wide range of interests, but especially reflect his involvement in public utilities regulation and protection of the natural environment. Over half of the collection consists of general correspondence (1951-1978) arranged alphabetically by subject and government agency. Name index card files of correspondents are available, one of which is organized alphabetically, another is arranged by location in Montana. Additionally in the collection are series for bills, printed materials, campaign materials, speeches and writings, voting records, and clippings. The Vic Reinemer Subgroup consists of general correspondence, outgoing correspondence, and subject files generated by Reinemer in his capacity as Metcalf's executive secretary and as staff director of the Senate Subcommittee on Banking, Management, and Expenditures.

The collection (1918-1946) contains three volumes of corporate records including articles of incorporation, meeting minutes, correspondence and telegrams, lumber company information, and financial records.

Summary:United States Spruce Production Corporation was incorporated in Washington on August 19, 1918, and the Spruce Products Division was responsible for overseeing the logging of Northwest Spruce, and the manufacturing of Spruce products. War Department memoranda, weekly bulletins, efficiency reports, correspondence, publications, liquidation files, and files on timber and railway companies.
