Summary:The Howe family is comprised of Henry Clay Howe (1832-1889) and his wife Letitia, their son Herbert C. Howe (1872-1940) and daughter Lillian Howe. The collection contains diaries, correspondence, photographs, and genealogical papers of the Howe family, manuscripts by Herbert C. Howe, and a ledger of the Oswego Canal Company of NY.

Randall V. Mills papers

Summary:Randall Vause Mills joined the University of Oregon English faculty in 1938. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mills wrote two books and numerous articles on transportation in the Pacific Northwest. He also wrote articles on bridge construction and location. In addition, Mills was interested in folklore, and was the founder and first president of the Oregon Folklore Society. The collection largely consists of correspondence, manuscripts, research material and notecards, printed material, photographs, and scrapbooks pertaining to transportation in the Pacific Northwest and folklore.

Albert and Carrie Sweetser papers

Summary:Albert Raddin Sweetser (1861-1940) was professor of botany at the University of Oregon, 1902-1931, and he established the UO Herbarium. His wife, Carrie K. Sweetser (1863-1952) was a watercolorist, a life-long diarist, and her botanist husband's devoted travel companion. The collection contains Albert Sweetser correspondence and notes, photographs and negatives of botanical subjects and travel in Japan and S. Korea in the early 1900s, and Albert and Carrie Sweetser travel and teaching scrapbooks, photo albums, journals, and personal material.

J.A. Winter and Clarence L. Winter photographs

Summary:John A. Winter (dates unknown) was one of Eugene's earliest photographers and maintained a studio there 1864-1886 in addition to working in Albany and Brownsville. His son, Clarence, kept the Eugene studio from 1886-1907 and then moved north to Portland and Seattle. The Winter studio collection consists of 37 images, primarily portraits.
