The reminiscence covers his early years of homesteading and farming with his brother, John, between 1886 and 1894. Summary: Henry Elwood was a junior high and high school history teacher in Kalispell, Montana, from 1937 until the 1970s or 1980s. He authored several books on Flathead Valley history. These papers consist of two subgroups: personal files including general correspondence (1937-1992), legal records (1937-1981), tax records (1947-1957), and miscellany, including World War II military records; and research files, consisting of subject files on Flathead Valley and general Montana history, and writings by Elwood and others.

Lee Metcalf Papers

Summary: Lee Metcalf (1911-1978) served as U.S. Congressman from Montana from 1952 to 1961 and as U.S. Senator from 1961 until his death in 1978. The papers reflect Metcalf's wide range of interests, but especially reflect his involvement in public utilities regulation and protection of the natural environment. Over half of the collection consists of general correspondence (1951-1978) arranged alphabetically by subject and government agency. Name index card files of correspondents are available, one of which is organized alphabetically, another is arranged by location in Montana. Additionally in the collection are series for bills, printed materials, campaign materials, speeches and writings, voting records, and clippings. The Vic Reinemer Subgroup consists of general correspondence, outgoing correspondence, and subject files generated by Reinemer in his capacity as Metcalf's executive secretary and as staff director of the Senate Subcommittee on Banking, Management, and Expenditures.

Summary: These records of the Air Quality Bureau of the Montana Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, Environmental Health Division, consist of hearing files (1980-1981) of public testimony concerning proposed ambient air quality standards. Also included are subject files concerning Air Quality Maintenance Areas around the state (1974-1978); concerning various coal mines and proposed coal mines (1973-1984); air pollution caused by the eruption of Mount Saint Helens (1980); the Poplar River Thermal Power Project (1974-1988), and tribal assistance to the Northern Cheyenne (1976-1981) and Flathead (1981-1982) Reservations.

Summary:This collection (1851-1975) consists of copies of documents housed in the National Archives and the Seattle Federal Records Center affecting Montana Indians and reservations and including copies of treaties, statutes, executive orders, and reports compiled and microfilmed by Historical Research Associates (HRA) of Missoula, Montana. Also included are four volumes containing a description of the project, a review of Montana Indian policy, individual reservation histories, lists of legislative acts, list of documents on microfiche, a bibliography, significant excerpts from the reservation superintendents' annual reports, and an index to archival documents on Montana Indian reservations.
