Summary:Philip Barbour (1900-1955) was a Helena, Montana, mine operator and amateur historian. His papers include personal correspondence (1911-1944), legal documents (1923-1944), and other materials, including historical research files on Samuel T. Hauser, Bannack, Gold Creek, the Helena Mining and Reduction Company, typhoid fever in Butte, the Montana Club, etc. The collection contains subgroups for Barbour's father, Dr. George H. Barbour (1880-1943); his mother's family, the Raleigh's; and for several mining companies, including Montana Lead, Inc. (1880-1944), and the Valley Forge Mining Company (1906-1939), both of Rimini, Montana.

Chester A. Bower Diary

Summary:The Chester A. Bower diary is a photocopy of the original volume, as well as a typed transcription of the diary. The diary contains brief one or two sentence summaries of his daily life from January 1, 1915 until July 5, 1918 when he began his military service in Virginia. Activities such as household chores, cooking, washing, hunting, fishing, irrigating, haying, livestock care, and wood cutting are recorded, along with social interactions with neighbors and cooperative work exchanges with them. Bower also records some local news and reactions to reports of the European war.

Summary: Anton M. Holter (1831-1921) was a pioneer Helena, Montana, lumberman and founder of the A.M. Holter Hardware Company. Papers (1831-1921) include correspondence, and organizational and financial records relating to mining, agriculture, lumber, real estate, and oil interests of three generations of the family, headed successively by Anton M. Holter, Norman B. Holter, and Norman J. "Jeff" Holter. Many of the enterprises were in partnership with Samuel T. Hauser. Interests include the A.M.
