Summary:The Alfred E. Aiken Papers consist of eight original letters he wrote from 1885 to 1890 to his sister, Sabra Jane "Jennie" Aiken who was living in Frewsburg, New York. The letters were sent from Poplar Creek and Dawson County, Montana, and Fort Buford, North Dakota, and describe his impressions of the country, the military garrison at Poplar Creek, members of the tribes on the nearby reservation, incidents of ranch life, and family news. The letters are supplemented by a biographical essay, "A Cowpuncher's Prairie Romance," written by Aiken's granddaughter, Evelyn J. Aiken Jones.

John C. Ainsworth papers

Summary:John Commingers Ainsworth (1822-1893) was the major founder of the Oregon Steam Navigation (OSN) Company, the most powerful transportation monopoly in the Pacific Northwest. Ainsworth was also involved in a number of other ventures, including the Northern Pacific Railroad (NPRR) and various gold, silver and coal mining operations. The John Commingers Ainsworth Papers contain Ainsworth's diaries, autobiography, personal correspondence, photographs, and the business records of the Oregon Central Railroad, Oregon Steam Navigation Company, Northern Pacific Railroad Company, and various mining, building and shipping enterprises.

Helen B. Andelin audio collection

Summary:The Helen B. Andelin audio collection (1976) consists of an abridged audiobook recording of Andelin's 1963 book, Fascinating Womanhood. A proponent of traditional gender roles, which she believed were the key to a successful marriage, Andelin originally wrote the book in 1963 to correspond with the marriage enrichment classes she was teaching. The Fascinating Womanhood movement continues to thrive today.

Clarence Leroy Andrews papers

Summary:Clarence Leroy Andrews was an employee of the Interior Department Bureau of Education and Reindeer Service in Alaska in the 1920s. He focused on Eskimos and their use of reindeer herds, writing several books about Eskimo life in Alaska. He was especially concerned with corporations which exploited reindeer herds, and led a campaign in the 1930s to remove Carl Momen of Seattle from control of the reindeer industry. The C. L. Andrews papers consist largely of business and personal correspondence, published and unpublished manuscripts, and photographs. Important to the collection are the W. T. Lopp files that relate to education in Alaska and the reindeer service from 1908-1939.

Summary:Roy C. Andrews was a school teacher and administrator in Michigan, Texas, Arkansas, Washington and Oregon. He was a chemistry instructor at the University of Oregon from 1935 until his retirement in 1950. Andrews is noted for his photographs of one-room schoolhouses in southern Lane County, 1911-1913. The collection consists of diaries, one account book, two ledgers, music concert lists, correspondence, University of Oregon material, and photographs.

Eleanor Roberts Baltzell Letter

Summary:The Elanor Roberts Baltzell Letter was written to Mrs. H. R. Wahoske of Great Falls, Montana by Eleanor R. Baltzell, on July 9, 1924 after reading the proceedings of the Montana Conference of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Great Falls. The letter discusses about her father, Thomas P. Roberts and his work with the Northern Pacific Railroad when the line was being surveyed in Montana during 1872 and 1873. The letter also points out paginated references to his work appearing in Olin D. Wheeler’s The Trail of Lewis and Clark, 1804-1904 (New York: G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1904).
