Summary:American architect and city commissioner Ormond R. Bean was active in Portland, Oregon politics and civic life from the 1930s to the 1960s. Collection includes personal and professional papers relating to Bean's life and work, including correspondence, scrapbooks, diaries, and photographs from his service as Federal Emergency Management Agency's Regional Director of Transportation in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Egypt during World War II. Also included are newsclippings concerning the battleship Oregon, 1935-1945; selected Portland City Commissioner records, 1936-1965; and certificates and items from Bean’s father, Robert S. Bean.

Collection Title: Lee Metcalf Papers

Summary: Lee Metcalf (1911-1978) served as U.S. Congressman from Montana from 1952 to 1961 and as U.S. Senator from 1961 until his death in 1978. The papers reflect Metcalf's wide range of interests, but especially reflect his involvement in public utilities regulation and protection of the natural environment. Over half of the collection consists of general correspondence (1951-1978) arranged alphabetically by subject and government agency. Name index card files of correspondents are available, one of which is organized alphabetically, another is arranged by location in Montana. Additionally in the collection are series for bills, printed materials, campaign materials, speeches and writings, voting records, and clippings. The Vic Reinemer Subgroup consists of general correspondence, outgoing correspondence, and subject files generated by Reinemer in his capacity as Metcalf's executive secretary and as staff director of the Senate Subcommittee on Banking, Management, and Expenditures. A number of pieces of correspondence throughout the collection have a corresponding photograph which is housed in the Lee Metcalf Photograph Collection (Lot 31). A photocopied photograph can be found with a number of these pieces of correspondence in the collection.

Summary:The Oregon Commonwealth Federation was a progressive political group that campaigned to support New Deal policies and politicians in Oregon, between 1936 - 1942. Monroe Sweetland was elected executive secretary/director of the group at its first convention in 1937, and served until 1942. The collection (1936-1942) contains articles of incorporation, by-laws, meeting minutes, press releases, financial records, and correspondence.

Volpe, an engineer for Portland General Electric Company (formerly Portland Electric Power Company) in Portland, Oregon, who supervised the laying of underground utility cables. Included are photographs of downtown Portland and cable laying operations, mostly in the 1920s through the 1940s.

Summary:The Clark Moor Will papers contain materials concerning the Aurora Colony of Marion County, Oregon and the Salem Water Department. The Aurora Materials cover all aspects of the colony, including the band, music, women, daily life, site maps, correspondence and architecture. The collection also includes manuscripts and articles written by other authors concerning the Aurora Colony. The Salem Water Department materials cover the history of the department and Salem's water supply, as well as speech transcripts. The collection includes two solander cases of oversize materials.
