Summary:Collection created by the Oregon Historical Society containing ephemera related to social life and customs, primarily in Oregon and Portland. Includes autograph books; calendars; invitations; greeting cards of all kinds; personal scrapbooks; and materials relating to exhibitions, expositions, celebrations, holidays, special events, sports, weddings, and patriotism. Most of the materials date from circa 1880-1970, with special emphasis on the early 20th century.

Summary:The J. Willard and Alice Sheets Marriott audio-visual collection (1960-1980) consists in large part of audio-visual materials produced or distributed by the Marriott Corporation. The bulk of the materials consist of production elements and final versions of various patriotic films sponsored by the Marriott Corporation, including "Honor America." Other materials include audio recordings of committees and stockholders meetings, audio and video tributes to Marriott and his company, and various other materials. J. Willard and Alice Sheets Marriott not only made a lasting impact in the service and hospitality industry but also left their mark in the political, religious, and academic arenas through their philanthropic works and activity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lee Metcalf Papers

Summary: Lee Metcalf (1911-1978) served as U.S. Congressman from Montana from 1952 to 1961 and as U.S. Senator from 1961 until his death in 1978. The papers reflect Metcalf's wide range of interests, but especially reflect his involvement in public utilities regulation and protection of the natural environment. Over half of the collection consists of general correspondence (1951-1978) arranged alphabetically by subject and government agency. Name index card files of correspondents are available, one of which is organized alphabetically, another is arranged by location in Montana. Additionally in the collection are series for bills, printed materials, campaign materials, speeches and writings, voting records, and clippings. The Vic Reinemer Subgroup consists of general correspondence, outgoing correspondence, and subject files generated by Reinemer in his capacity as Metcalf's executive secretary and as staff director of the Senate Subcommittee on Banking, Management, and Expenditures.

Montana Council Of Defense Records

Summary:The Montana Council of Defense was established during World War I to coordinate county war efforts. It also investigated cases of alleged disloyal activities. Records (1916-1921) include minutes, correspondence, subject files, testimony and exhibits for hearings and special investigations, membership lists, and correspondence of various county councils of defense. Correspondence has been digitized and is available on the Montana Memory Project.
