Anaconda Copper Mining Company records

Summary: This collection consists of records (1876-1974) of the Anaconda Copper Mining Company and contains correspondence, court papers, financial and production records, legal documents, organizational records, subject files, and other materials for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company and many of its predecessor and subsidiary companies and departments. Among the major subgroups are General Office; Big Blackfoot Milling Company; Bitter Root Development Company; Boston and Montana Consolidated Copper and Silver Mining Company; Colorado Smelting and Mining Company; Diamond Coal and Coke Company; Parrot Silver and Copper Company; Reduction Department (Anaconda); Silver Bow Club; Trenton Mining and Development Company; Tuttle Manufacturing and Supply Company; and Washoe Copper Company. In addition, there are more than 100 smaller subgroups.

Apex mine legal exhibits

Summary:The Apex mine legal exhibits (1919) consist of one book of maps and charts of the Apex mine. This book was prepared for the "Vein suit" as referred to in a handwritten note included with the book. The Apex Mine is located near the Bingham Canyon Mine, in the Highland Boy Fork of Bingham Canyon, Utah. The Apex Mine legal exhibits were an important part of the legal case of 1919 between the Utah-Apex Mining Company and the Utah Consolidated Mining Companies regarding the interpretation of extralateral rights governing the ownership of limestone and ore contained around the Apex Mine.

Summary:The John Mason Boutwell papers (1905) consist of galleys and proofs for the United States Geological Survey Professional Paper #38, titled Geology of the Bingham Mining District, Utah, by John Mason Boutwell (b. 1874). The report includes "an introductory statement on the general geology of the region by S. F. Emmons, a chapter on the areal and structural geology of the Bingham district by Arthur Keith, and a detailed discussion of the economic geology by J. M. Boutwell."

Eugene Callaghan (1904-1990) was a geologist for the United States Geological Survey. He conducted several investigations of various territories around Utah and its surrounding states.

Summary:The Hampton C. Godbe papers (1864-1990) consist of materials collected by Godbe documenting the life of his grandfather, William S. Godbe, in preparation for a proposed biography. Included are correspondence, notes, articles, and memorabilia. Also included are additional research notes of Hampton Godbe on other topics, as well as personal papers, memorabilia, and news clippings. Hampton Godbe was a Utah newspaper reporter and, later, the manager of Salt Lake City's Metropolitan Water District. His grandfather, William S. Godbe, was the leader of a group of Salt Lake City Mormons opposed to the leadership of Brigham Young, later known as the Godbeites or the Church of Zion.

Summary:The William S. Godbe statement (1984) is a photocopy of the handwritten version in which Godbe describes his excommunication by the LDS Church, subsequent mining and smelting ventures in Utah Territory, his disagreements with Brigham Young, and his abandonment of polygamy. Godbe was a prominent Utah businessman. He was a member of a group of intellectual Mormon dissenters that became known as the Godbeites and was excommunicated by the LDS Church in 1869.

Henry Earl Havenor papers

Summary:The Henry Earl Havenor papers (1892-1969) are a collection of mining papers, including correspondence, stock-promotion materials, stock ledgers, and a letterpress book of correspondence of the West Mining Company located in Nevada. Much of the materials contained in this collection relate to mining and business, but there are a few personal papers. Henry Earl Havenor (1887-1978) had an intimate knowledge of Utah's mining industry, and was well acquainted with the problems of labor, the farmer, the investor, and the business man.
