John C. Ainsworth papers

Summary:John Commingers Ainsworth (1822-1893) was the major founder of the Oregon Steam Navigation (OSN) Company, the most powerful transportation monopoly in the Pacific Northwest. Ainsworth was also involved in a number of other ventures, including the Northern Pacific Railroad (NPRR) and various gold, silver and coal mining operations. The John Commingers Ainsworth Papers contain Ainsworth's diaries, autobiography, personal correspondence, photographs, and the business records of the Oregon Central Railroad, Oregon Steam Navigation Company, Northern Pacific Railroad Company, and various mining, building and shipping enterprises.

Clarence Leroy Andrews papers

Summary:Clarence Leroy Andrews was an employee of the Interior Department Bureau of Education and Reindeer Service in Alaska in the 1920s. He focused on Eskimos and their use of reindeer herds, writing several books about Eskimo life in Alaska. He was especially concerned with corporations which exploited reindeer herds, and led a campaign in the 1930s to remove Carl Momen of Seattle from control of the reindeer industry. The C. L. Andrews papers consist largely of business and personal correspondence, published and unpublished manuscripts, and photographs. Important to the collection are the W. T. Lopp files that relate to education in Alaska and the reindeer service from 1908-1939.

Summary:The Beekman family consists of Cornelius C. Beekman, the founder and owner of Beekman Bank in Jacksonville, Oregon, his son Benjamin Beekman, a Portland, Oregon lawyer and UO Law School faculty member, and his daughter Carrie Beekman, who donated substantially to the University of Oregon. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, miscellaneous manuscripts and publications, scrapbooks and photographs.

Summary:Walter S. Bowman (1865-1938) was a professional photographer who worked in Pendleton, Oregon, from the late 1880s to the mid 1930s. Bowman's photographs document daily life in Eastern Oregon, including special events such as the Pendleton Round-Up. The collection consists of almost 800 negatives and prints representative of the span of the photographer's work, but his noted images of tribal people were largely destroyed after his death.

Summary:Robert Aubrey Miller (1854-1941) graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon in 1878, and began a law practice in Jacksonville, Oregon, served in the Oregon House of Representatives, and was as an aide to Governor Sylvester Pennoyer. The collection contains correspondence, letterpress volumes, a diary, proceedings of the Jacksonville District Pomona Grange (1876-1879), a Willamette University memorandum book, scrapbooks of clippings, speeches, Southern Oregon District Fair material, books of poems, excerpts from The Hesperian, a literary magazine edited by Miller, and photographs.

Summary:This collection consists of records collected and created by the Oscar Mueller family. The records document their professional and personal lives spanning from 1856 to 2017. Oscar Mueller's papers span from 1864 to 1997 and mainly consist of his activities as a lawyer and an amateur historian. George Mueller's papers span from 1861 to 2013 and mainly consist of his correspondence and historical research activities. Glenn and Helen Mueller's records span from 1910 to 2016 and mainly consist of biographical and historical materials. Record types include correspondence, diaries, military, and subject. The Cook Family records span from 1856 to 2017 and mainly consist of genealogical records. Record types include correspondence, diaries, legal, and newspaper clippings. Also included is the correspondence between George and Glenn to their parents during their military service in World War II.
