Collection Title:James Sanks Brisbin papers

Summary:James Brisbin, a Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, native, served as an Army officer in the Civil War and the Indian Wars, 1868-1891. He was stationed at Fort Ellis, Fort Assiniboine, Fort Custer, Montana Territory, and many other western forts. Brisbin was also a writer and publicist. The collection contains a small amount of correspondence (1860-1890), and writings (1850-1891) concerning the Army, the Indian Wars, the West, and Montana Territory.

Summary:John H. Ming (1831-1887) was a Helena, Montana Territory, rancher and theater owner. Collection includes family correspondence (1859-1887); financial records (1852-1887); legal documents (1852-1895); subject files about Ming's Opera House and the Park Ditch Company; and subgroup for Katherine Cole Ming. [Ming's papers include papers of his Estate.]

Summary:William Orr was a partner in the Poindexter and Orr Livestock Company in Dillon, Montana. Collection (1902-1971) includes ranch records; business and fraternal papers of Orr's son John T. Orr, including the Orr photographic studio; correspondence of Orr's grandsons John Orr, Jr. and Matt Orr during World War II; and records of family activities in DeMolay, PEO, Delphians, etc. [Photographs, artifacts, and printed materials transferred to the Photograph Archives, Museum, and Library respectively.]

Summary:The Park Saddle Horse Company, owned by Wilbur N. Noffsinger and later by George W. Noffsinger, was a concession in Glacier National Park, Montana. Records (1915-1947) include financial and horse-raising records, subject files, organizational papers, diaries (1933-1947) of George Noffsinger; and subgroups for the W.N. Noffsinger Company, the Big Draw Land and Stock Company, and the Big Draw Sheep Company.

Summary: T.C. Power was a Montana merchandise, transportation, mining, ranching, banking, and real estate magnate; and U.S. Senator from Montana from 1890 to 1895. Collection (1868-1950) includes personal, business, and political correspondence plus financial and legal papers of many of his business enterprises. Collection documents Power's involvement in military and Indian trade, steamboating, freighting, stage coach lines, mail contracts, cattle and sheep ranching, mining, banking, bridge building, townsite development, and other enterprises.
