Rollin Simeon Belknap letter

Summary:In 1870, Rollin Simeon Belknap claimed a hot springs site located in Oregon, in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains, that is now known as Belknap Hot Springs. The collection contains a letter of June 5, 1872, from Belknap to A. Gibbs, asking Gibbs to pass on a bottle of water (that was sent with the letter) to a chemist for tests, as the springs he found were said to be good for healing. (The bottle is not included in the collection)

Summary:The Ralph I. Gifford Motion Pictures consist of The New Oregon Trail, a tourism film photographed by Ralph I. Gifford for the Oregon State Highway Department, and unedited motion film clips of a variety of subjects, including alpine search and rescue. Ralph I. Gifford became the first photographer of the Travel and Information Department of the Oregon State Highway Commission in 1936, a position he held until his death in 1947.

Williams Electronic Records include images, word processing files, PowerPoint presentations and other electronic formats that chronicle Williams's research interests and scholarly productivity during his years working as a historian and sociologist for the U.S. Forest Service. The entire collection is born digital and is available upon patron request or for use in the SCARC reading room. Included are materials documenting the history of the Forest Service as well as various national forests across the United States. The collection likewise reflects Williams's involvement in historical outreach activities and events, his interest in forest fire policy, and his study of editorial cartoons as historical sources. Biographical data and professional documents detailing Williams's work over time are included as well.
