Collection Title:Dewitt/Palmer family photograph collection

Summary:The DeWitt/Palmer Family photograph collection consists of 104 black & white photographs copied out of an old family photo album belonging to Erin Palmer, a descendant of the families. The photographs date from the 1870s to the 1930s (with a few dating to the 1940s) and consist mainly of portraits and snapshots of the family. Included are recreation shots taken in Logan Canyon (fishing, hunting, and skiing) and of Soda Springs, Idaho.

Summary:Approximately 290 photographs (collodion, gelatin, carte-de-viste, tintype, cabinet card, etc.) dating from the 1860s to the 1960s. These originals were removed from the "A-board photograph collection" for preservation reasons and replaced with substitute copies. The A-board photograph collection contains photographs that were mounted onto boards, cataloged individually, and located in filing cabinets. There are three groups, Utah State University (USU) boards; Compton Photograph Studio genre and landscape scenes from Box Elder County, and miscellaneous images. Most of the photographs are of Utah State University, Cache Valley, or Utah scenes. The remainder are formal studio portraits, photos from Mormon history, or images of the American West.

Summary:1,163 black & white and color photographs, 890 black & white negatives (4x5, 5x7, and 35 mm negatives), 48 black & white glass plate negatives, cyanotypes, duplicates and photocopies, and copies from pages in Mr. Somers' books. Most of the images were taken in Cache Valley (Utah and Idaho, Logan and Logan Canyon, Utah and the Bear River Range, Box Elder County and Southeastern Idaho). A few are from Wyoming, Hawaii, and California. Subjects include the Utah State Agricultural and Brigham Young Colleges of Logan, Cardon Jewelry company and family, Stanford University, the Logan L.D.S. Temples and Tabernacle, Hampton's Ford, fishing, hunting, and camping, railroads, the Jim Bridger Centennial Celebration, the 145th Artillery Unit, businesses and buildings of Cache Valley, parades, portraits of Logan residents and homes, the Peterson farm in Petersboro, agricultural scenes, the Hercules Power Plant, Shoshone Indians, and Bear River Canyon. Most images were taken during 1890-1940.

Summary:2,842 photographs that document the history of Utah State University from roughly 1890 to 1990. Nearly every major aspect of USU is covered by these images including student activities, athletics, building projects, departments, graduation, classroom scenes, the library, extension and experiment station activities, and university staff and faculty. The images show the evolution of the University from the Agricultural College of Utah with nine faculty members and 139 students when classes first opened in the fall of 1890 to a modern, research institution. Photos are mounted onto 2,024 archival poster boards.
