Summary:Russel L. Baker, M.D., was a medical instructor at the University of Oregon Medical School and practicing physician in Oregon specializing in neurology. His papers span the years 1941-1976, and consist primarily of materials related to gastroenterology and gastrointestinal health created or used by Baker. Included are handwritten notes, medical organization meeting notices, medical journal articles, workshop materials, autopsy reports, other non-medical publications, and medical implements.

Summary:The Educational Communications department at OHSU (known as EdCOMM), provides production services such as photography, audio/video, graphic design, and multimedia support for classrooms. The collection contains strictly photographic materials from the mid 1980's through the late 1990's. The collection consists of 170 folders of photographs, contact sheets and negatives. The folders are arranged (in original order) alphabetically by the department or subject documented at OHSU. The photographs, contact sheets and negatives are primarily in good condition, ranging in various sizes from 5 x 7 to 9.5 x 12 inches. The images were taken by staff photographers at EdCOMM likely for promotional purposes.

Summary:Carl Julius Hoffmann, M.D., graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School with the class of 1907 and served as the town doctor temporarily for LaCenter, Washington and permanently for Woodland, Washington for 62 years. The collection consists of 12 glass lantern slides of bone fractures originally created by Hoffmann.

John BeVier White Papers

Summary:Dr. John BeVier White was born in Shelby, OH, ca. 1898. By 1917, he had enrolled at Stanford University but left school to serve in World War I. After his discharge, he came to Portland to attend Reed College. He received his medical degree from the University of Oregon Medical School in 1927 and completed his internship at Good Samaritan Hospital before entering private practice in 1928. In 1940, he joined the Army and served as regimental surgeon for the 41st Division. He received the Silver Star for valor at Buna-Gona (when he removed shrapnel from his own knee so he could return to action). He remained with the Army until his retirement in 1959. He died in November 1972.
