O'Brien, SJ , photographs, publicity brochures, newspaper articles and audio tapes.

Summary:The Department of Public Health and Preventative Medicine (PHPM) was officially founded at the University of Oregon Medical School (UOMS, now OHSU) in 1941 to examine social hygiene (later known as public health), family life, and sex education, especially the prevention of venereal disease. It expanded throughout the 20th century and has become an integral part of the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. This collection houses departmental records of PHPM as well as administration and communication records for Katie Riley, Ed.D.

Includes leaflets, posters, correspondence, news clippings, and agendas. Many of the items pertain to the 1992 anti-gay Measure 9 in Oregon, sponsored by the Oregon Citizens Alliance. Most materials were collected by Andrew Leavitt. Also includes materials from other LGBTQ organizations such as ACT-UP and R.A.T.S.

Summary:The origins of the OHSU School of Nursing can be traced to the summer of 1919 when the University of Oregon introduced the state's first professional courses in nursing. The courses were offered in Portland in cooperation with the Northwest Division of the American Red Cross Home Service Department, the Portland Visiting Nurse Association, the Welfare Bureau, and the Oregon Tuberculosis Association. During this time, the Portland School of Social Work offered a standard course of study in public health nursing. The materials trace the adminsitration of the school through the present day. The transfer of the materials is based on the descretion of the administrative offices of the School and are therefore sometimes incomplete.
