Summary:Ava Williams (1912-2003) performed as a popular music singer and pianist on stages on both coasts of the United States from 1939 to the late 1990s. She grew up in Eastern Oregon and spent her final years in Portland. In the intervening years, she lived and worked in California, New York City, Provincetown (Mass.), Boston, and Philadelphia. Her personal collection spans from her childhood to her death, and includes papers, photographs, sound and audiovisual recordings, mostly pertaining to her musical career. The collection also includes family papers and photographs dating back to 1880.

Summary: The Kearney W. Barton collection of Northwest sound recordings primarily consists of original recordings engineered and/or produced by Barton at Audio Recording, Inc., his own recording studio, which operated out of various locations in Seattle, Washington from 1961 through the late 2000s. The bulk of the collection is comprised of music recordings, but also contains a smaller percentage of spoken word recordings, as well as radio advertisements (many of which also incorporate music). Specific audio formats represented in the collection include: open reel analog tape, compact cassettes, analog sound discs (7 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch, and 16 inch), magnetic wire records, and compact discs. The collection also contains a small amount of manuscript material, which mainly consists of technical notes that were found with some recordings and very limited correspondence (chiefly from lawyers). In some instances, notes included on original containers also have been preserved when material has been rehoused.

Dr. Martin's areas of specialty included the socio-cultural history of the United States, the history and literature of the American frontier, American environmental history, and Indian-White relations in American history. This special collection contains 16 boxes of manuscript materials relating mostly to Native Americans in the Northwest. Box 15 in the collection contains various small objects, such as arrowheads. While most of the donation consisted of monographs that were added to the Library's holdings, the collection also included manuscript materials described within this document.

Summary:Jack Olsen was an American author and journalist who wrote thirty-one books and is said to have set the standard for the crime writing genre. The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, manuscript drafts and notes, source materials, reviews, and audiotapes from the early 1950s through the 1960s. The monograph series contains manuscript drafts and completed manuscripts for three of Jack Olsen's books: Black is Best, The Climb Up to Hell, and I'll Take Baseball. It also includes materials related to Over the Fence Is Out, a humorous book about his childhood that he published under the pseudonym Jonathan Rhoades, and works related to two unpublished novels. Most of the articles were written while Olsen was a staff member of Sports Illustrated.

Summary:Sheridan County Oral History Project consists of 16 audio recordings and 19 transcripts of interviews conducted with 19 former and current residents of Sheridan County in Northeastern Montana conducted primarily in June of 2010. Includes oral history interviews with former and current residents of Sheridan County in northeastern Montana. The interviewees discuss the impact differing political stances, particularly the rise of the Farmer Labor Movement and Communism, had on the community during the 1920s and Great Depression era, how it impacted the relationship between Communist and non-Communist in the area at the time, the political beliefs of their parents during and after the movement, and how that impacted the political beliefs of the interviewees over the years. Interviews conducted by Professor Larry Knopp, University of Washington, Tacoma, Tacoma, Washington, and Professor Gerald Zahavi, University at Albany, SUNY, Albany, New York.

Through the agency of Native Americans themselves, the archive and continuing project allows Native American and university scholars to continue to research and rewrite the histories of colonization that have been imposed upon Native peoples.

Summary:Kim Stafford is a writer from the Pacific Northwest. His poetry and essays focus on the relationship of people with nature and social custom. Stafford places great value on folklore and bases much of the research for his own writing on the study of folk custom and oral history. He has taught and served as an artist-in-residence throughout the state of Oregon and in Washington, Idaho, and California. He regularly offers poetry readings and writing workshops and is active as a printer. The majority of the collection of Kim Stafford’s work encompasses books and other printed material, including periodicals and newspapers. Also included are photographs, videos, broadsides, and printed flyers.
