Summary:Ruth Hopsen Keen (1906-1998) was a naturalist who studied the Collier Glacier, an educator and Geology professor, an author, and the first female to become a (Park) Ranger Naturalist at Crater Lake National Park. The collection (1930s-1970s) contains correspondence, diaries/journals, a Crater Lake Ranger Naturalist manual, Geological Society publications (of which Keen was president), geology and mineralogy publications, Keen's teaching records from the UO and dissertation, printed matter, reports, subject files, maps, slides, negatives, glass lantern slides, audio, film, and photographs.

Lee Metcalf Photograph Collection

Summary:Lee W. Metcalf (1911-1978) served as a Montana state congressman, state assistant attorney general, World War II soldier and military prosecutor, and a Montana Supreme Court Associate Justice between 1937 and 1952. From 1952 to 1961, he held Montana’s First District U.S. Representatives seat. In 1961, he became a U.S. Senator, serving until his death on January 12, 1978. The photographs in this collection depict all aspects of Metcalf’s life and service in public office, including images of his time in various Montana government offices, as a U.S. Congressman, and as a U.S. Senator. Images from Metcalf’s personal life are included, showing Metcalf’s ancestors from Maine and Massachusetts; his early life and school days; his wife Donna and their son Jerry; Metcalf’s parents and their family; and scenes from his regular life outside of public office. The bulk of the collection is focused on the later part of his term as a U.S. Congressman, through his many years in the U.S. Senate, from 1958 to 1977. Originally housed within Metcalf’s congressional offices, many of these images were used by Metcalf and his office staff from 1953 to 1978 for various publications, television and film recordings, congressional hearing exhibits, newspaper articles, and election and publicity materials.

Summary:Lee Nelson (1927-1994) was an American pioneer in historic and architectural preservation. The Lee Nelson Papers consist of professional correspondence, architectural drawings, published reports, pamphlets, articles, catalogs, manuscripts, photographs, and slides. The bulk of the material was generated during Nelson's career at the National Park Service, and includes material related to his activities in helping to preserve Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and other historic buildings, including the White House. This finding aid is a preliminary list of the contents of the Lee Nelson Papers.

Summary:The Oregon Folklife Program provided statewide services supporting folklife, traditional arts and artists, and folk arts in education in Oregon from 1988 to 2009, first at Lewis and Clark College, 1988-1993, and then the Oregon Historical Society, 1993-2009. This collection comprises the Oregon Folklife Program’s records, 1988-2009, including folklore fieldwork documentation in the form of photographs, sound recordings, and video recordings of cultural events and traditional arts and artists in urban and rural Oregon communities; program materials, including exhibitions and table-top exhibits, learning units for grades 3-6, radio and video productions on folklife in Oregon; and administrative files, including artist files, accounting files, research files, and digital files. Oregon Folklife Program programs and projects included apprenticeship programs for traditional arts, exhibits and community events, educational units and instructional materials, regional folk arts surveys, youth community documentation projects, and radio and video productions on folklife in Oregon. The collections include rich visual documentation of traditional arts and artists in cultural, occupational, and religious communities in Oregon, including refugee communities, immigrant communities, rural communities, and Native American communities.
