Summary:Ava Williams (1912-2003) performed as a popular music singer and pianist on stages on both coasts of the United States from 1939 to the late 1990s. She grew up in Eastern Oregon and spent her final years in Portland. In the intervening years, she lived and worked in California, New York City, Provincetown (Mass.), Boston, and Philadelphia. Her personal collection spans from her childhood to her death, and includes papers, photographs, sound and audiovisual recordings, mostly pertaining to her musical career. The collection also includes family papers and photographs dating back to 1880.

Summary:The Ivan Collins papers, 1903-1971, document research, publication and exhibition activities pertaining to Collins's studies, construction and models of horse-drawn vehicles. The buk of the collection dates from the period from about 1940 to 1971 and includes correspondence between Collins and the other wagon research experts in the United States. Numerous newspaper and magazine clippings reflect Collins's obsession with his topic. Of particular historical interest is both the scale plans of his wagons, which provide rare construction details, and the journals, notes and sketches which document how Collins located examples to work from and how he learned to construct historically accurate models.

Summary:Papers of Oregon journalist and civic leader Marshall Newport Dana, mostly documenting his professional activities. Included are materials relating to Dana's editorial work for the Oregon Journal, such as research notes and drafts of writings, plus extensive files on organizations in which Dana was involved. Especially well documented is his work on issues such as civic and regional planning, conservation, and river and harbor improvements. Of special interest is Dana's manuscript diary of his fact-finding trip to Asia in 1947. The collection also contains materials created by Dana's second wife, Martha Ferguson McKeown Dana.

Summary:Oliver Greeley Hughson, a retired building materials salesman, developed a successful program to teach young men construction skills. His Boy Builders Clubs and Minimalic Construction method became a model for schools and colleges throughout the United States and British Columbia. The bulk of Hughson’s papers chronicle the development of this training program from its inception in 1933 until his death in 1959. His personal papers include correspondence, his 1882 diary, day books, and family history.
