Summary:The Abbott-Stuart-Matejeck Family Papers consist of positive photocopies of business and personal papers collected or created by Teddy Blue, Mary Stuart Abbott, Granville Stuart, and Mary Abbott Matejcek. In addition to the papers are copy photographs of Teddy Blue, Mary Stuart Abbott, and their children; views of the Abbott ranch; portraits of several Stuart children; views of the Matejcek farm near Lewistown, taken by photographer Cook Reynolds, circa 1915-1922, which show big teams at work plowing and harvesting; an interior view of the Matejcek saloon in Roundup, Montana, circa 1913; a view of the Overland School taken around the turn of the century.

Summary:The Dan Fulton Papers consist of correspondence of both a personal and professional nature, financial records both personal and ranch related; various records and papers dealing with the Fulton Ranch and its livestock production; research materials including correspondence, articles, newsclips, books, papers, and maps; personal memorabilia, scrap books, and photographs. The collection also includes papers pertaining to Dan's political interests, and a large volume of written work in the form of speeches and articles. Subjects covered in the collection include farming, ranching, various aspects of cattle and sheep production, conservation, land tenure, public land use, property valuation for tax purposes, predators (coyotes, wolves, and grizzly bear, homesteading, and early history of the Ismay, Montana area.

Edith R. Furman Photographs and Scrapbook

Summary:The Edith R. Furman Photographs and Scrapbook were created and gathered by Edith R. Furman during her time in Montana. The photographs were likely taken at the 1934 dedication of a monument on the Rosebud Battlefield, and on other dates at the Crow Fair at Crow Agency near the Little Bighorn Battlefield. Identified tribes represented include Crow, Cheyenne, and Choctaw. The scrapbook, titled "Book II: Montana History, Battle of Little Big Horn and others. Edith R. Furman, 1933-34," contains undated and unidentified newspaper clippings with no photographs.

Summary:The Hamilton, Ballinger, Davidson, Bunnell, McAfee, and Weesner Papers consists of correspondence, personal documents, estate documents, research, and literary productions assembled by various members of the families, including Florence Ballinger Hamilton, Paul Ballinger Davidson, PhD, Marie Bunnell Davidson, Jane Davidson Schultz Klockman, and Esther Lee Davidson Engstrom. Materials of interest include Civil War, World War I, and World War II correspondence. Of further interest are two journals relating to Yellowstone National Park, materials from Dr. Davidson's fellowship at the Mellon Institute and his papermaking materials.

Lawrence S. Heberle Papers

Summary:The Lawrence S. Heberle Papers consist of photocopied research papers. They include: surveys and general information about Camp Baker (original site), Camp Baker/Fort Logan, Camp Ida Thoroughman/Camp Green Clay Smith, Fort Howie and Fort Ellis; maps and diagrams of the fort sites, many of which were drawn by Lawrence S. Heberle; journal articles and newspaper articles about the forts surveyed during the activity of the Montana Indian Wars of 1867; official documents on health and postings of soldiers; general articles related to western forts in Montana and photographs of selected fort sites. Many of the photocopied photographs of the Camp Baker, Camp Baker/Fort Logan, Camp Ida Thoroughman and Fort Howie sites were taken by Lawrence C. Herberle in 1974.

Topics include family activities, early education, ranch operation, Spanish American War service, ranch guests and employees, Levi Strauss and Company's introduction of women's pants in 1934.

Summary:The Ryamond A. Mentzer Research Papers consist of photocopied journal articles, transcripts of interviews, copies of published and unpublished papers, and newspaper articles on the history and physical descriptions of 19th century forts in Montana. Other items include photocopies of the 1880 census and official government documents of the Department of the Army pertaining to Montana forts, copy photographs of the original forts and soldiers, hand-drawn maps, diagrams and plans, copy slides of Camp Baker, Fort Logan, Fort Ida Thoroughman, Fort Howie and Fort Maginnis portraying surveys of the physical locations and remaining structures of these forts in the 1970s. The primary concentration of this research is the location, layouts and structural content of the original forts and their conditions at the time of the research; however there is also substantial information on the social and military experiences of the soldiers assigned to Montana forts during the active period of the 1860s -1890s including the era of the Indian Wars.

Lou Stocking Stewart Papers

Summary:The Lou Stocking Stewart Papers consist of diaries, scrapbooks, correspondence, printed materials, photographs and memorabilia. Materials in this collection were created or collected by Lucy Bigelow Stocking and Lou Stocking Stewart. Subjects include: travels, Fort Benton, daily life, women's clubs, ranching, the "Whoop-up Trail", and Montana history. Photographs are primarily images of the Stocking and Stewart families and friends, Fort Benton (town and ruins), Belt and Great Falls, Montana. The memorabilia includes conventions name tag ribbons Lou Stocking Stewart collected by attending the annual meetings of the Montana Pioneers Society and the GAR Women's Relief Corps.
