Summary:Irene and Hugh Currin served abroad together as nurse and doctor, respectively, with the 46th General Hospital from Portland during World War II in both North Africa and France. This collection contains military documentation, photographs, postcards, memoirs and obituary, diaries, World War II era ephemera from their tours, newspaper clippings, and letters detailing their story.

Summary:Hilda Drum attended the University of Oregon Medical School in the X-Ray Technology program. She was later appointed Chief Technician and eventually became a faculty member. Educational Communications Image Collection

Summary:The Educational Communications department at OHSU (known as EdCOMM), provides production services such as photography, audio/video, graphic design, and multimedia support for classrooms. The collection contains strictly photographic materials from the mid 1980's through the late 1990's. The collection consists of 170 folders of photographs, contact sheets and negatives. The folders are arranged (in original order) alphabetically by the department or subject documented at OHSU. The photographs, contact sheets and negatives are primarily in good condition, ranging in various sizes from 5 x 7 to 9.5 x 12 inches. The images were taken by staff photographers at EdCOMM likely for promotional purposes.

Summary:The Erickson Family collection houses the personal papers of three generations of health science professionals (two doctors and a dentist), Charles A. Erickson, Russell Erickson, Jr., and Russell Erickson, III. This collection which dates from 1906 to 1994, consists of student notebooks, doctor's notes, journals, photographs, drawings and sketches, school ephemera, news clippings, a painting, and various medical artifacts contained within a doctor's bag.

Summary:The collection consists of materials that pertain to the life and work of Herbert Merton Greene, M.D., and his wife, Jeanne Todd Greene, centering around Greene's work as a civilian and military physician as well as membership in the Freemasonry and the Anglo-Saxon Christian Association. As well, materials surrounding Jeanne Todd Greene's education, work, and life as a nurse both before and during World War I are included.

Daniel H. Labby historical image collection

Summary:Daniel H. Labby, a private practice physician from Portland, OR, assembled the scrapbook in 1939 during his graduating year at the University of Oregon Medical School. The scrapbook contains images of the campus, faculty and his fellow students. Videocassettes (2) from the Class of 1939 50th Reunion and a memorial photogasph album (assembled by Labby) are included in the collection. Labby was also Professor of Medicine at the University of Oregon Medical School from 1958 through 1971 and has served as a professor of psychiatry and medicine at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center/Oregon Health Sciences University from 1972 to the present.

Summary:This collection contains records from the Medical Research Foundation (MRF) from 1956 to 2009. Founded in 1942, MRF would go on to provide decades of funding and development for biomedical research at the University of Oregon Medical School (OHSU), the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center, and other medical institutions within the state until merging with OHSU's research foundation in 1994. This collection contains administrative records, correspondence, grant proposals, newsletters, media, and more.

Herbert C. Miller Papers

Summary:Dr. Herbert C. Miller, D.D.S., M.D., was born in 1864, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from the Missouri Dental College in 1885 and from the St. Louis Medical College in 1887. Dr. Miller founded the North Pacific College of Dentistry in 1898. As president, he gave North Pacific College of Dentistry to the State of Oregon in 1945. He died, December 20, 1947, at his new home, Newport, Oregon. The collection consists of personal papers and photographs and professional documents from Herbert Miller's career as an early dentist in the Pacific Northwest.

Summary:Founded in 1976, the OHSU School of Nursing Nurse-Midwifery Program enables students earning a master's degree in nursing to also become certified in nurse-midwifery. The Nurse-Midwifery Program Scrapbooks provide an inside look into the early days of the program, consisting primarily of photographs, pages from OHSU publications featuring program faculty, news clippings, program brochures, and ephemera originally housed within two scrapbooks compiled and kept by program faculty.

Oregon Dietetics Internship Program Collection

Summary:Dietitians were one of the earliest health professions trained at the University of Oregon Medical School located on Marquam Hill in Portland, Oregon. The student dietitian training program began in 1930-31. Under the auspices of the Oregon Dietetic Association, the program was sponsored by Portland area hospitals, including Multnomah County Hospital and Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children. The program is the oldest on the West Coast and has graduated some 725 dietitians in its 75 year history. The program remains the primary supplier of Registered Dietitians for Oregon and the Northwest. The collection contains photographs, documents, and other ephemera highlighting the activities of the Oregon Dietetics Internship Program's graduating classes of 1955-56 and 1965-66.

Summary:George A. Porter graduated in 1957 from the University of Oregon Medical School, was a Cardiology Fellow and Nephrology Fellow before becoming Professor Emeritus in the School of Medicine Nephrology Department at OHSU. His collection is composed of 83 slides with the common subject matter being historical images from the University of Oregon Medical School at 23rd and Lovejoy, the Marquam Hill Campus and of Howard P. Lewis, Chairman of Medicine at the University of Oregon Medical School from 1946-1971.

They cover not only his own research and inventions in ophthalmologic disease and surgery, but also the creation and expansion of the Casey Eye Institute in conjunction with the Oregon Elks Association.
