Collection Title:William L. Finley Papers

Summary:The William L. Finley Papers document the wildlife conservation work of Finley and his wife Irene, and the photography work of Herman T. Bohlman, who worked with Finley in the first decade of the 20th century. Finley was a photographer, filmmaker, and author who wrote and lectured extensively on wildlife conservation issues. The collection includes published and unpublished manuscripts, lecture and field notes, reports, correspondence, photographs and motion picture films. The majority of the Finley Papers are being digitized at this time. Portions of the collection will be unavailable for research during the digitization process. Researchers are advised to contact the Special Collections and Archives Center in advance to confirm that desired materials are available.
 
Collection Title:Gifford Photographic Collection

Summary:The Gifford Photographic Collection consists primarily of photographs taken by four Gifford Family photographers: Ralph I. Gifford; his father, Benjamin A. Gifford; his wife, Wanda Gifford; and his son, Ben L. Gifford. The collection also includes motion pictures filmed by Ralph I Gifford, some photographs for whom the photographer is not identified, images by other photographers, and documentary materials. The Gifford Family's photographic work began in 1888, when Benjamin A. Gifford emigrated to Portland, and continued into the 1950s. The collection documents Oregon landmarks and scenic views on the Oregon coast and in the Cascade Mountains, Willamette Valley, and central and eastern Oregon; agriculture in Oregon; and Native Americans, especially of the Columbia Plateau.

Summary:The Robert W. Henderson Papers document Henderson's student years at Oregon State College; his work with Kasetsart University in Thailand; his resarch as a plant breeder and an Assistant Director of the Agricultural Experiment Station; his long-time interest in photography; and the slide presentations he developed about OSU agricultural research. Henderson graduated from Oregon State College in 1938 and served as a faculty member and administrator at OSU from 1946 until his retirement in 1976.

Summary:The Jimmie Morris Papers reflect Morris' life-long interest in broadcasting, his decades of service to KOAC radio and television, and the broader evolution of the station itself. The collection is particularly strong in its documentation of the emergence of television as a tool for statewide education, a development that came about after much debate in the mid-1950s. An Oregon Agricultural College graduate, Morris was on the staff of KOAC from 1932-1963 and is the author of a history of the station, The Remembered Years..., published in 1972.

Summary:The 4-H Moving Images consist of motion picture films, videotapes, and a DVD documenting the programs and activities of 4-H clubs in Oregon, especially the summer school held on the Oregon State campus. The 4-H youth program is administered through the Oregon State University Extension Service and was established in the early 1910s.

Summary:The Gerald W. Williams Collection consists of Williams' personal papers, historic photograph collection, and related materials pertaining to the history of the U.S. Forest Service as well as the forestry, environmental history, Native Americans, and geography especially of the Pacific Northwest. Williams assembled and created the materials during his career as sociologist and national historian with the U.S. Forest Service. The Gerald Williams Collection is closed for research at this time for processing. Materials will become available for researcher use as arrangement and description is completed.
