The Bureau of Land Management was formed in 1946 by the merger of the General Land Office and the United States Grazing Service. BLM lands in Oregon are primarily forest lands in western Oregon and grazing and range lands in eastern Oregon.

Summary:The National Forests in Oregon Maps consists of maps of all the national forests in Oregon prepared by the U.S. Forest Service. The collection includes maps of the entire forests, ranger districts, and wilderness areas. The maps depict key landscape features, forest roads, campsites, ranger stations and lookouts, recreational sites, and main roads near each forest. Forest reserves were established in Oregon in the early 1890s; many of these reserves became National Forests in the early 1900s after the establishment of the U.S. Forest Service.

Summary: The Northwest Ethnohistory collection includes oral histories, manuscripts, correspondence, maps, bibliographies, publications and photographs relating to various Native American tribes in the Pacific Northwest. Tribes documented in the collection include Chehalis, Shoalwater, Chinook, Clallam, Clatsop, Cowlitz, Duwamish, Haida, Klamath, Klickitat, Kwakiutl, Lummi, Makah, Muckleshoot, Nisqually, Nooksack, Puyallup, Quileute, Quinault, Salish, Semiahmoo, Skagit, Snohomish, Squaxin, Steilacoom, Suiattle-Sauk, Swinomish, and Suquamish. The records contain information about the various tribes' art, ethnic identity, family relationships, and indigenous languages. The collection also documents fishing, hunting, and whaling practices, and the social conditions and material culture of these indigenous people. The records provide insight into the tribes' social life and customs, including their legends, religious rites and ceremonies. There are also a large number of documents related to politics and government relations including the legal status of tribes, and laws regarding land tenures and treaties.

Rangeland research began at Oregon State in 1934 and an undergraduate program in range management was established in the late 1940s.

Summary:The Oregon Timber Tax Maps consist of more than 4,000 maps and related documents detailing appraisal information for forest taxes. The collection includes annotated township maps, data sheets on timber volume, as well as many other pieces of information regarding the valuation of timbered lands in Oregon during the 1950s-1970s.
