Summary:The Spotted Owl Management, Policy, and Research Collection consists of documents assembled by E. Charles Meslow pertaining to the northern spotted owl controversy in the Pacific Northwest during the 1980s and early 1990s. The documents include published and unpublished materials such as scientific reports, correspondence, management plans and proposals, environmental impact statements, news articles, and documents submitted in litigation. Meslow conducted research on the northern spotted owl with the Oregon Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit at Oregon State University and served on the Interagency Scientific Committee established in 1988 to address conservation of the northern spotted owl.

Summary:The Liz VanLeeuwen Spotted Owl Collection consists of materials collected and generated by former State Representative Liz VanLeeuwen pertaining to the listing of the Northern Spotted Owl as a protected endangered species in Oregon and the effect this had on the state's timber industry. VanLeeuwen graduated from Oregon State College in 1947 and served in the Oregon Legislature as State Representative from 1981 to 1999.

Summary:The Gerald W. Williams Collection consists of Williams' personal papers, historic photograph collection, and related materials pertaining to the history of the U.S. Forest Service as well as the forestry, environmental history, Native Americans, and geography especially of the Pacific Northwest. Williams assembled and created the materials during his career as sociologist and national historian with the U.S. Forest Service. The Gerald Williams Collection is closed for research at this time for processing. Materials will become available for researcher use as arrangement and description is completed.
