Clarence Leroy Andrews papers

Summary:Clarence Leroy Andrews was an employee of the Interior Department Bureau of Education and Reindeer Service in Alaska in the 1920s. He focused on Eskimos and their use of reindeer herds, writing several books about Eskimo life in Alaska. He was especially concerned with corporations which exploited reindeer herds, and led a campaign in the 1930s to remove Carl Momen of Seattle from control of the reindeer industry. The C. L. Andrews papers consist largely of business and personal correspondence, published and unpublished manuscripts, and photographs. Important to the collection are the W. T. Lopp files that relate to education in Alaska and the reindeer service from 1908-1939.

The bulk of the collection consists of printed material from various churches, notably the First Congregational Church of Portland and Oregon City's Atkinson Memorial Church. The collection also includes microfilmed records from the First Congregational Church of The Dalles. A limited amount of correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, and assorted church records forms the remainder of the collection.

Summary:Algernon Cyrus Dixon (1875-1962) was a director of the Ochoco Timber Co., Eugene, and trustee and president of the West Coast Lumbermens’ Association. From 1911 to 1923 he served on the Board of Regents, University of Oregon (UO), much of the time as chairman of the building committee. The collection includes correspondence with UO presidents Prince L. Campbell and Arnold Bennett Hall, and with Mrs. George T. Gerlinger, Joseph N. Teal and H. Phimister Proctor. One major series of letters concerns the location and construction of the University of Oregon Medical School. There are also documents regarding the Ochoco Timber and Booth-Kelly Lumber Companies.
