Summary:The Francis E. Beall Papers contains a photocopied manuscript of family history written in 1957 entitled "A Dream of an Empire." There are several handwritten essays concerning: the history of Butte; a childhood accident suffered by Francis and treated by Butte doctors; the early days of the Butte Electric Power Company and the Montana Power Company; a horse named Prince owned by Francis during his childhood at Waterloo. Included is a synopsis of a June 26, 1966 interview with Francis by MSU Special Collections librarian Minnie Paugh, as well as the letters she received from him from 1969 to 1971. There is also an original photograph of the Beall family at their Waterloo ranch, circa 1880.

Harry Hembree Papers consist of the retelling of Hembree's grandfather's 1843 overland journey, a 1947 interview in which Hembree reminisces about his family and his life, and Hembree's 1912 log of the Althea voyage from Portland, Oregon to Alaska.

Burlingame in 1967. The recording pertains to the life and family of Nelson Story, Sr., a prominent Montana pioneer of Bozeman and Los Angeles, California.

Summary:The Wallis Huidekoper Collection consists a selection of letters exchanged between Dr. Merrill G. Burlingame and Wallis Huidekoper regarding the editing of an oral history interview conducted in 1954, a 1929 letter from Edward Douglas Branch thanking Huidekoper for his favorable comments on The Hunting of the Buffalo (New York: D. Appleton and Co., 1929) and a 1938 letter from Martin S. Garretson, again thanking Huidekoper for favorable comments on his book, The American Bison (New York: New York Zoological Society, 1938). Also included are edited versions of an oral history interview with Huidekoper conducted by Elizabeth DeFrate and Merrill G. Burlingame on July 26, 1954 and transcribed from an audio tape, a typed bibliography of Huidekoper's articles, along with two original manuscripts he wrote concerning artist Charles M. Russell has been placed in a separate folder. Other materials include printed brochures and pamphlets written by or pertaining to Huidekoper' father, Henry Shippen Huidekoper and newspaper clippings pertaining to historic sites in the Germantown, Pennsylvania area, Wallis Huidekoper, Theodore Roosevelt, and ranching in North Dakota and Montana. Six photographs of North Dakota badlands residents circa 1880s and the Huidekoper ranch near Big Timber, Montana, circa 1956, complete the collection.

Summary:The Mercy Jackson collection consists of three reels of audiotape produced by MSU library personnel from an original recording of Jackson made by Eleanor and Robert George Jackson sometime prior to 1964. The collection also consists of photocopied typed and handwritten historical essays written by Mercy Jackson; essay titles include "History of Fergus County," "Lewistown," "Robert George Jackson," "Lewistown Public Schools," "The Old Time School," "Public and City Schools of Fergus County," "History of the first M. E. Church," and "History of the Ladies Aid and W.S.C.S.". Additional photocopies include newspaper clippings and a letter to Eleanor Gardner from Ruth Saxton regarding Lewistown history topics, particularly education history.

Summary:The Jefferson Center for Education and Research specialized in facilitating discussion, problem solving and community connections among low-income non-timber forest workers and harvesters, rural communities and contingent laborers in the Pacific Northwest. This collection provides much needed insight into the economic, political, and social issues among these groups. Founded by Beverly Anne Brown in 1994, the center was headquartered in Sunny Valley, Oregon. The collection includes meeting materials and minutes, correspondence, forest product resources and information, published and unpublished manuscripts, interviews, photographs, and audio and video materials.

Summary:Alice B. Sheldon, pen name James Tiptree, Jr. (1915-1987), was a much acclaimed science fiction author, publishing from 1968 to 1987. She was also briefly a painter, an art reviewer for the Chicago Sun, a chicken farmer, and a CIA analyst. She earned a doctorate in experimental psychology, and corresponded with and reviewed the work of several well-known psychologists. This collection contains correspondence, drawings, manuscripts, and her writing, from childhood to her death, in all of these areas.
