Summary:OHSU launched the Board of Overseers and Trustees in 1979 with the purposes of understanding the complex nature of an academic health sciences center, building relationships with individuals and organizations in the private sector, and serving as advocates for the university. The records span 1976-1996 and consist of the files of individual board members as well as records related to the overarching activities of the board and other supporting documents.

Summary:The Oregon Graduate Institute was originally chartered in 1963 by the Oregon Legislature to provide graduate-level training and expertise to the state's rapidly expanding high-tech industry, including so-called "Silicon Forest" companies. In 2008, the school's name was changed to the Department of Science and Engineering and by 2010, the department was dissolved and the academic programs and research were disseminated to other OHSU institutes and departments. This collection includes a variety of materials including administrative records, faculty and class files, and photographic and audiovisual materials.

Summary:The Portland Academy of Medicine was established in 1906 and modeled after the New York Academy of Medicine. The Academy's goals focused on the investigation and promotion of the science and art of medicine, and the creation and maintenance of a public medical library located at the University of Oregon Medical School. This collection contains primarily correspondence and meeting minutes of the Portland Academy of Medicine relating to the closing years of the organization, but also includes the bylaws and constitution, membership lists, applications, and ephemera for meetings.

Summary:The Oregon Health Sciences Libraries Association (OHSLA) was established in 1975, connecting health science librarians in Oregon to more effectively provide health care related information to the citizens of Oregon. The Portland Area Health Sciences Librarians (PAHSL) was formed following the creation of OHSLA to provide a local meeting space for health science librarians in the Portland area. Materials include bylaws, minutes, brochures, correspondence, and conference and continuing education workshop materials produced by the organizations.

Summary:The OHSU School of Nursing began in 1919 at the University of Oregon and offered the state’s first professional courses in nursing. In 1926, the University introduced a five-year curriculum culminating in the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. Later, and the program has been growing and changing ever since – adding certificate programs, pre-nursing curricula, continuing education and distance learning, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs, and a wide variety of care-focused nursing concentrations. This is collection contains virtually every kind of documentation and format covering all facets of the School’s administration and history.

Summary:The origins of the OHSU School of Nursing can be traced to the summer of 1919 when the University of Oregon introduced the state's first professional courses in nursing. The courses were offered in Portland in cooperation with the Northwest Division of the American Red Cross Home Service Department, the Portland Visiting Nurse Association, the Welfare Bureau, and the Oregon Tuberculosis Association. During this time, the Portland School of Social Work offered a standard course of study in public health nursing. The materials trace the adminsitration of the school through the present day. The transfer of the materials is based on the descretion of the administrative offices of the School and are therefore sometimes incomplete.

Summary:The OHSU library was founded in 1893 as part of the University of Oregon Medical Department. In 1919, the library's 4,000 books moved up the hill to what is now Mackenzie Hall. In 1939, the library moved into a new building next door and then relocated again in 1991 with the opening of the Biomedical Information Communication Center (BICC). This collection spans the library's history, with materials produced largely by library employees and committee members.
