The project was originally conceived in 2000 as a television show, a collaborative effort which pulled together the Oregon Medical Association, Oregon Health Sciences University, The Foundation for Medical Excellence, and the Oregon Historical Society. At a later date the Oregon Medical Education Foundation came on board. Efforts were coordinated with Matt Simek whose Pacific Standard Television was to shoot it. A pool of 37 interviews was collected. A basic working title was chosen: "Medicine in Oregon: Reflections of Senior Practitioners."

Correspondence about the project, as well as back-up documentation and information about the actual interviewees is handled in the Records section, Box 1. Boxes 2 and 3 have written copies of the interviews, while Boxes 4 and 5 contain the actual taped interviews themselves in several formats.
