Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Businessman of Seattle, Washington.

John M. Moran was born in 1884, the eldest son of Robert Moran, who was Seattle mayor, 1888-1889, and an owner of the Moran Bros. Co., builders of the first battleship built here (the Nebraska, 1904). John M. Moran was a foreman for the construction of Rosario, a lodge built by his father on Orcas Island in the San Juans. He attended grammar school in Seattle, but was a graduate of Cornell University, New York. Moran founded the Moran Mfg. Co. and built centrifugal pumps until selling the business in 1941. He was trustee of the Washington Mutual Savings Bank for 25 years, and was active in the First Avenue Improvement Association in the 1930s. He was president of the College Club, a member of the Arctic Club, Rainier Club and Rotary. John Moran died in 1970. (Bio. material from obit, Seattle Times, 12-26-1970.)
