Historical NoteReturn to Top

Kulintang refers to a type of gong played by the Maranao people of the Philippines. A kulintang instrument set is created by placing an idiophone of metal gong kettles horizontally across a rack. The instrument allows for the playing of both pelog and slendro scales. Since improvisation is so important in this style of music, there are no set compositions of Kulintang music.
