Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Peter Iverson (1861-1946) was born in Odda, Hardanger, Norway. After immigrating to the United States, he lived in Minnesota and Illinois before settling in Iowa, where he was a student at Humbodlt Academy and Cornell College. He moved to Poulsbo, Washington with his wife and three children in 1900 and began publishing the Kitsap County Herald, a trade he had learned while living in Iowa. He served as the mayor of Poulsbo and state senator from Kitsap County, 1913-1919, and with the Progressive Party movement in the state. He was concerned with legislation on prohibition, direct marketing, logged-off lands, fisheries, the direct primary, and with compulsory vaccination for animals.
