Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Nearly 160 photographs, most donated by the National Forest Service, document the beginnings of this northern Utah ski area. Dates on the photographs begin in the early 1940s, with details of ski technique and early skiing equipment. Ogden City Recreation began Snowbasin Ski Area in the late 1930s. It was operated by the city until the 1950s when it was sold to private interests.

The addendum, comprising of folders eight through eleven, consists mostly of modern images of Snowbasin Ski Resort, including: scenic views, children and instructors participating in ski and snowboard education, and downhill racing. During the early nineteen-nineties Salt Lake placed an unsuccessful bid for the 1998 Winter Olympics; folder nine consists of image from a slide show used during the 1998 Winter Olympic proposal process. The addendum is comprised entirely of digital scans; the originals were retained by Snowbasin.
