Pandit Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee (1931-1986) was a classical sitarist from Calcutta, India. He learned sitar from his father as a small child, and at the age of 9 won an all-India competition and was hired by All India Radio. Banerjee studied under multiple teachers before becoming a disciple of well-known sitarist Baba Allauddin Khan. During his lifetime, Banerjee only created a handful of recordings, but was well-known for his life performances. Shortly after his death, he was posthumously awarded the Indian civilian honor of the Padma Bhushan.
