Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Watercolorist Vara Grube was born in Seattle on January 7, 1903. She studied at Cornish Art School and was active in the Seattle art scene. In 1940, Grube and two other members of the Women Painters of Washington founded the Northwest Watercolor Society.

Grube married lawyer Charles Hickey in 1935. Upon his death in 1950, she moved to Palos Verdes, California. She died in Redondo Beach, Calfornia on December 30, 1994.
