Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Minute Men were a volunteer organization formed to gather and report information regarding all violations of war and espionage acts and proclamations. The first meeting of the Seattle precinct was held on November 17, 1917, in the home of William J. Alvey and Clarence L. Andrews. The group held to a strict organizational chain of command, based on the model of military hierarchy. There was an executive committee composed of three paid government officials and the remaining officers were volunteers. Members were expected to pay monthly dues of at least 50 cents and the organization also received financial support from local businesses
