Mathematician, educator, author and inventor.

Jacob Bronowski was born in Poland on January 18, 1908. He received his doctorate from Cambridge University, England in 1930. He immigrated to the United States in 1964 when he received an appointment to the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Bronowski was the first Aagaard Lecturer at the University of Washington. He died in 1974.

The Aagaard lecture series was named for George and Lorna Aagaard and is sponsored by the UW. School of Medicine. George Aagaard was the second dean of medicine.

Open-reel sound recording of interview broadcast on KRAB/FM radio, November 9, 1965. The 65 minute interview of Dr. Jacob Bronowski was conducted by Dr. Jonathan Gallant. Topics discussed include: the nature of a machine, man and the learning process; games, science and poetry--how they are related and how they differ; and the fact that "the logic of history has not at all been kind to tyrants and dogmatists." Also discussed is Bronowski's invention of a chess playing machine.
