James Ralph Jones was born July 15, 1906 in Hillsboro, Texas. He was 72 at the time of the taped interview. In Texas he worked on a government construction project, building foundations for houses. In 1942 Jones moved to Spokane, drawn by the promise of $1.00 per hour pay. Jones was one of the early members of the Morning Star Baptist Church, which was formed in 1946.
