The material in the collection consists of four letters. Folder 1 contains two letters written by John W. Young, a son of Brigham Young and Mary Ann Angell. John W. Young served as a counselor to Brigham Young from 1873-1877 and also counselor to the Twelve Apostles from 1877-1891. Both letters were written to his daughter, Mary Luella Merza Young Goulding, and his granddaughter, Mary Young Victoria Goulding, and are personal in nature. Both letters were written during John W. Young's last year of life. Folder 2 contains two letters written by J. Wesley Young, son of John W. Young. The letter from 1924 was written to his sister, Mary Luella Merza Young Goulding, informing her of the death of their father. The letter from 1891 was written to his father, John W. Young, while on an LDS mission in North Carolina. This letter is complete with details of Southern life during this time period and also provides a picture of the relationship between father and son.
